Working at an international law firm is an invaluable experience. You get to work with colleagues and clients across the globe. Even when I was applying to WFW, it was very clear that “international” work wasn’t just an abstract concept but something you are actively encouraged to get involved in. At WFW, an international secondment is guaranteed and mine was in Singapore. During my secondment, I attended WFW’s Asia Away day where I met and socialised with people I’d only previously seen on email chains. Singapore was a great place from which to travel more widely, which I hadn’t been able to do during the pandemic.

The firm’s Singapore office is a good size for trainees to be able to make a real impact. My colleagues there were approachable and friendly, and I’ve found this to be the case across the firm. The work was exciting and challenging, both different and complementary to what we do in London.

Working in one of the firm’s overseas offices, like Singapore, enables you to form strong relationships with people outside of London. I see this as very helpful as my career progresses. Being able to work on complex transactions and in different jurisdictions grew my confidence and changed me as a person. Although I was sad to leave Singapore, there are often opportunities at WFW to qualify abroad.

Everyone works internationally here. Collaboration with your international colleagues is part of everyday life. The international network and mindset is real and exciting.
